EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Throughout each week, children have the opportunity to participate in many different activities that encourage the development of specific skills. Each of these programmes is offered through outside providers so some fees apply.

Our extra-curricular activities include additional art and music lessons, ceramics, swimming and gymnastics. Furthermore, children who wish to study an additional modern foreign language may do so on the school premises with an invited teacher after classes.

*For full-day payers all resource lessons are included in the tuition (not valid for ceramics and swimming).

COOKING

Cooking time is a bonding time for children. It often allows children to relax and share what's going on in their lives, even if they're otherwise reticent to open up to a teacher.

Cooking expands their palates - when a child cooks a new food or dish on their own. They are more likely to eat it - or at least try it. Making a meal boosts confidence when kids can say, "I made it myself," they feel a sense of accomplishment. Also the process of cooking food demonstrates chemistry and math principles at a level that a child can understand. Choosing recipes educates also on culture

ART AND CRAFTS

The principle of these lessons is to set no limits to children’s imagination, encouraging them to bring to life their creative ideas. CERAMICS

Ceramics enhances creativity, spatial intelligence and fine-motor skills development among children. It allows children to explore clay as a material. Children enjoy squishing, squelching, pinching, rolling, poking, stretching and pounding the clay. Some children find this particularly soothing and it can be useful for releasing tension or frustration. Clay making is a fun way to introduce 3 dimensional art to children of all ages.

Working with clay improves dexterity and uses both small and large muscles. Little fingers and hands are strengthened whilst working with clay due to its firm nature and the larger muscles of the arms, back and shoulders are strengthened when rolling slabs or coiling clay.

MUSIC AND DANCE

Dancing is more than just fun. It help little children to release the stress, which is very improtant, since children just as adults may accomulate negative emotions during the day and have to learn how to get rid of them in a right way. When dancing, kids learn how to catch the music rythm, follow the music and express their feelings through motion. Finally, regular dance lessons form beautiful gait and correct posture.

Dance is such a non-traumatic activity that we recommend it to all children who are three years old or older. We hold ballet lessons twice a week led by Katarina Knocikova, graduate of the Dance Academy and a talented teacher. When kids dance together they find it easier to communicate with one another and become closer to one another thanks to the relaxing atmosphere of the classroom, fun and the great job that the teacher does.

CZECH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

Children who attend this lessons become more perceptive and sensitive to the beauty of the words that surrounds them. They are able to feel and hear more and live through a wider range of experiences than children who are not exposed to language education.

As Jan Amos Komensky wrote, “Much can be learned in play that will afterwards be of use.” Not only do games amuse the children but they also help stimulate their physical development and teach them important social skills.
